Do Your Kids need to See the Dentist?

When was the last time your kids saw the family dentist? Has your youngest child eve been? Many parents find themselves so busy with doctors’ visits and school schedules, that they may forget to schedule regular dental visits for their kids. Unfortunately, this can lead to cavity development and other dental problems that could lead to discomfort, infection, or eventually the premature loss of their baby teeth. If you want to keep your kids’ precious smiles healthy, it’s important they see the dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings!

Does Your Baby Need to Get a Checkup?

Did you know that even babies need dental care? Yes; around the age of one pediatric dentists recommend kids visit the dentist for the first time, and that they then see the dentist at least twice a year for checkups and cleanings.
Though your child’s “baby teeth” will eventually fall out, that does not make their dental care any less important. That’s because they can create discomfort, and eventually infections in the mouth, which can spread bacteria to other parts of the body through the bloodstream. Premature tooth loss can also lead to alignment problems as permanent teeth begin to come in.

How Often Should Kids Get Cleanings?

To keep your kids’ smiles healthy, they should be getting dental cleanings at least twice a year. That said, if your children are susceptible to dental decay, your dentist may recommend even more frequent cleanings in order to properly protect them from dental problems. Your family dentist might also recommend a dental sealant to help prevent tartar buildup.
