Does Your Smile Need a Dental Crown?

Are you concerned that the cavity you were diagnosed with has now gone on to create an infection, because you failed to have it restored promptly? Dental discomfort or pain is a common symptom of a tooth infection, which might require restorative treatment such as a dental crown. Of course, infection is hardly the only reason a person might require restoration in the form of a crown. Chips and cracks are other common causes of dental problems, either due to chewing on ice or another hard substance, or an accident such as a sporting injury. Fortunately, in these and many cases a crown is a fast and effective restorative treatment that can leave the patient able to chew comfortably, once again, and just as importantly, to smile confidently as well!

Dental Symptoms Can Be Indication Treatment Is Needed

One of the most important things you can do for your oral health is to simply pay attention to any and all changes in your smile. Most dental problems cause symptoms, which can be clear indication that it is time to seek restorative treatment.

For instance, sensitivity is often an early indicator of a cavity developing. Pain is often a sign of progressed decay or even an infection. Changes in the color of the teeth can also be warnings of erosion to the teeth’s enamel, and changes to the gums’ color can be indicators of infection, such as with gingivitis, the first stage of gum disease.

By seeking prompt restorative treatment, you can minimize the risk that extensive measures will become necessary. In many cases, crowns make effective restorations that are also esthetically-beneficial, since they can be made to closely resemble existing teeth, allowing for natural-looking restorations.
