Symptom: Bleeding Gums And What To Do (And Not Do)

There’s a symptom associated with your gum health that can cause some serious alarm: It’s bleeding gums! When you see this, do you know how to respond? Are you aware that there are some things that you should do and some things you should definitely not do? If this is new to you, then we highly recommend you take just a moment to become more familiar, so you’re prepared to keep those gums safe and sound.

It’s Often Due To Gum Disease

About gum disease: It’s what happens when your gum tissue becomes irritated as the result of exposure to plaque and its bacteria. Eventually, gum tissue will respond by pulling back, inflammation will occur, and you may also experience bleeding gums! You may even see bright red or purple tissue, your smile may feel sore, and you may have bad breath. In any case, this problem requires prompt care.

Don’t Try To Brush Or Floss It Away

Don’t try to make your gum disease or other problem go away by either becoming more serious about brushing and flossing (or by figuring that pressing harder may help). While you should most certainly be brushing and flossing daily (brushing twice; flossing once), it won’t heal your gums. Excessive care may make matters worse.

Do Come In For Periodontal Care Right Away

Your bleeding gums should cause you to do just one thing in addition to providing good daily care: Call us right away! We’ll need to see your smile and you will likely require a deep cleaning to begin the healing process.
