Afraid Of Needles? Try Us!

injectAre you afraid of needles? Ten percent of the population is. It is a phobia called trypanophobia–the fear of needles and injections. According to statistics, at least 20 percent of Americans avoid medical treatment because of their fear of needles. Another 20 percent avoid the dentist because of dental fear and anxiety. At Allen Family Dentistry we are in tune with our patient’s feelings and fears and help to allay them in any way we can, so if you’re afraid of needles, try us!

We Offer Comfort and Compassion

Dr. Allen, Dr. Neumann, and the team at Allen Family Dentistry work diligently to offer comfort and compassion because they know that there are many people who avoid medical and dental treatment due to their fear of needles and other fears. For people who do not like injections, we offer Oraqix, a topical anesthetic. For procedures not appropriate for a topical anesthetic we also offer nitrous oxide.

Oraqix

Needle-free, Oraqix is a topical anesthetic combining 2.5 percent lidocaine and 2.5 percent prilocaine periodontal gel. Benefits include:

  • Needle-free
  • Fast onset
  • Gel consistency ensures localized absorption
  • Site-specific
  • Multiple areas of the mouth can be treated during the same visit, enabling full-mouth procedures

Nitrous Oxide: The use of nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is a fast-working, painless procedure. The gas is inhaled through a small face mask and works within a matter of seconds. It bestows a sense of calm and well-being over the patient. Some patient descriptions include:

  • Makes them feel calm
  • Makes them feel happy
  • Gives them a contented feeling all over
  • They feel slightly numb

The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly after treatment. Patients are even able to drive themselves home, and they can resume normal activities immediately.
