Do you have multiple gaps across your smile due to tooth loss? Have you lost most, or possibly all, of your natural teeth? Then instead of hiding your smile and living with limited meal options, why not talk to our team about a solution? In today’s blog, your Pella, IA, dentist talks about completing smiles with our full and partial dentures.
You Are Not Too Late!
You could suffer advanced tooth loss for a number of reasons, but the likely cause is periodontitis, the advanced stage of gum disease. When this develops, the connective tissues between your teeth are severed, creating loose and missing teeth. Over time, the jaw weakens as well in response, leading again to further tooth loss and an aged appearance. But even if you have lost multiple teeth and years have elapsed, we can help with our full and partial dentures!
Partials
If you have several gaps across your smile, this could be too advanced to be addressed with a bridge, but you still have enough natural teeth in place that a full denture would be overkill. For this in-between state, we could help your smile with a set of partials. Our team will take detailed images and impressions of your bite with digital technology, using these in a lab setting to design and craft your prosthetic.
The partial will contain durable and color-matched ceramic teeth set in an acrylic base, a base that looks like natural gum tissue. When set into your smile, metal-clasps will connect to natural teeth to keep your new teeth in place, and these new teeth will fit in the gaps snugly. Your new denture could last about 5 to 10 years before replacement is needed.
Full Dentures
What if you have lost most or all of your teeth? In a situation like this, we could remove the last few teeth and take images and impressions of your bite with digital technology, so we can design and craft a complete set of prosthetics, one with a full row of new teeth set in an acrylic base. Suction or adhesives will keep your new teeth in place, but we could also connect them to dental implants for a fixed option that also helps keep your jaw intact.
If you have any questions about how we treat advanced tooth loss, or if you want to receive a set of dentures, then contact our team today to learn more.
